NSS volunteers from Panjab University to help PGI patients

About 200 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh and its affiliated colleges will provide preliminary support to patients on arrival in the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER)

The project will be part of PGIMER project, Saanjhand will be launched on 8th March, International Woman’s day. An official spokesperson said the NSS volunteers will provide procedural guidance and first aid on arrival to save the precious lives. The volunteers will be deployed for five hours a day as per convenience in shifts on rotation basis.

“They will be on duty from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The volunteers will work in three shifts. Necessary training will be provided by Indian Red Cross Society before deployment,'” the spokesperson said.

The initiative is taken by Chandigarh Administration, the State NSS Cell in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society. A help desk of NSS Volunteers from P.U Chandigarh and its affiliated colleges will be set up in PGI to make the patients aware about different departments and act as attendants, if needed. The project will be launched on 8th March 2018 on International Woman’s day.
